Description:
The summer of her dreams is about to get a reality check.

They said it couldn't be done, but geeky sophomore Lauren Carlson transformed herself into a popular girl after moving to a new school halfway across the country. Amazing what losing her braces and going out for cheerleading will do. Only trouble is, the popular crowd is wearing on Lauren's nerves and she can't wait to return to summer camp where she's valued for her brain instead of her handsprings. She misses her old friends and most of all, her long time camp-only boyfriend, Seth. This year she intends to upgrade their relationship to year-round status once she's broken up with her new, jock boyfriend, Matt. He doesn't even begin to know the real her, a girl fascinated by the night sky who dreams of discovering new planets and galaxies.

But Matt isn't giving her up without a fight. As he makes his case to stay together, Lauren begins to realize his feelings run deeper than she ever would have guessed. What if the guy she thought she was meant to be with forever isn't really The One? Returning to Camp Juniper Point was supposed to ground her uprooted life, but she's more adrift than ever. Everything feels different and soon Lauren's friends are turning on her and both guys question what she really wants. As summer tensions escalate, Lauren wonders if she's changed more than she thought. Will her first big discovery be herself?

My Opinion

I hosted a spot on a blitz for this book a while back and it looked interesting then so when it came up on Netgalley I was excited to start reading it. If you know me, you'll know I love all romance: love triangles, feel-good reads, sweet, standard and Camp Boyfriend was all of these.

Camp Boyfriend was a fun, quick and easy read that was nice to kick back and relax with. It was a good summery read and I was drawn in right from the start. I also loved that I was able to pick and vouch for the right guy for once. Normally the person I choose never ends up with the girl!

There were some good moments where the characters had serious heart-to-hearts and I felt these were crafted well and gave a really good insight into the character on a deeper level. I especially liked the one with Matt. I also liked that the focus--although mainly on Lauren--was spread around with relationships. It even spread to the counselors so it gave the book more variety than just the love triangle between Lauren, Ryan and Seth.

I did feel that Seth could have tried a little harder. I didn't find his love for Lauren very believable and there wasn't much of a fight for her when she showed up at camp with her boyfriend. For people who were supposedly in love, he gave up really quickly.

As well as this, I did find Lauren slightly whiny. She lost quite a bit of sympathy from me with some of her actions and although I like love triangles, I felt she was too indecisive and hung up on whom to be with too long. If there is a love triangle in a book, I like more drama and Camp Boyfriend had more drama with the friends than the guys.

Overall though, Camp Boyfriend was an enjoyable summer read. It kept me interested and engaged and did put a smile on my face a few times.
