Publisher: Harper Impulse

Chalet Girl Sophie Trent has plenty of reasons to hate Valentine's Day. After a lifetime of being treated like she didn’t matter because of her looks, she’s shed the pounds but not the self-esteem issues – and when she can curl up with one of her beloved romance novels, why put herself through a night of awkward speed ski dating?

A treasure hunt set by a secret admirer makes her reconsider. Only, what if it’s a cruel joke? Because it certainly wouldn’t be the first time!

But as Sophie follows the trail of red paper hearts around the idyllic winter wonderland of Verbier, she can’t help but wonder whether there really might be a Secret Valentine waiting for her out there on the slopes...

My Opinion

I only received this book a few hours ago--literally--but I couldn't wait to start it. I needed a break from what I've been focusing on for the past few days and Secret Crush of a Chalet Girl was the perfect escape. If you haven't figured it out from my last three reviews of the books in this series, I'm a big fan of it so obviously I couldn't wait to get my hands on this installment and therefore couldn't wait to start it.

Secret Crush of a Chalet Girl has everything I've come to love from this author in the previous books but it had one extra thing that hasn't been present before...it almost moved me to tear. Yep, my eyes were tearing up and although that may be partly due to the mood I'm in, I definitely found Secret Crush of a Chalet Girl to be more moving due to Sophie's back story. There was one heart-wrenching moment where Sophie confesses everything and I just felt for her completely and I could feel my emotions swelling with her. Lorraine definitely did an excellent job of creating a believable an likable character that you vouched for wholeheartedly.

As well as this, I loved the treasure hunt aspect. Although the set up as to who was behind it was a little predictable (not sure if that was intentional), I'm still a hopeless romantic so I didn't care. I thought it was unique as it isn't something I've seen before in books and it's now given me another unrealistic expectation of guys. I want a treasure hunt too! ;-)

Once again, Lorraine packs a lot into the 82 pages and the pacing is kept throughout the entire novella so it keeps you turning pages until you forget the time. The only thing I can really say was that I wanted the ending to be developed slightly more. It ends well, with everything resolved, no questions and a feel good aspect but I think I would have liked to read about what Holly reveals rather than just hear her state it. That's probably the hopeless romantic in me coming out again though.

Overall, I still stand by the statement I've made in my previous reviews: these are some of the best winter novellas I've read in a while and ones you won't want to miss. They take you through a whirlwind of emotions, keep you engaged, are full of characters you can relate to and above all are feel-good romances that are fun, sexy and sweet. I would highly recommend!

Review ~ Last Stand of Dead Men (Skulduggery Pleasant #8) by Derek Landy

Last Stand of Dead Men (Skulduggery Pleasant, #8)Hardback purchased by myself

Release Date: 29th August 2013

Publisher: HarperCollins Children's Books

Description:

War has finally come.

Allies turn to enemies, friends turn to foes, and Skulduggery and Valkyrie must team up with the rest of the Dead Men if they're going to have any chance at all of maintaining the balance of power and getting to the root of a vast conspiracy that has been years in the making.

But while this war is only beginning, another war rages within Valkyrie herself. Her own dark side, the insanely powerful being known as Darquesse, is on the verge of rising to the surface. And if Valkyrie slips, even for a moment, then Darquesse will burn the world and everyone in it.

My Opinion

I waited ages for this books to be released and it took me a few extra months to finally get to it as I have been so busy. However, the wait was definitely worth it!

I'm not going to say much about this book as it is the eighth in the series so I don't want to give anything away for those of you who haven't read any of the previous books. What I will say though is that you can expect more of the same from this brilliant author. His writing is witty, it made me smile, made me sad, I couldn't believe some of the story and hated the characters for what they did. I didn't agree with everything the author wrote but it was definitely interesting in an annoying kind of way. It pulled a lot of emotions from me and combined with plenty of action I was not able to put down or stop reading this book.

If you haven't read this series, seriously, go check it out. You won't be disappointed. Derek Landry had a unique, original style that I have fallen in love with.

Review ~ The Kiss Before Christmas by Sophie Pembroke

The Kiss Before Christmas
eARC received via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

Release Date: 19th December 2013

Publisher: HarperImpulse

Description:
An English Girl in New York

As the snow starts to fall on Manhattan, PA Dory Mackenzie is a long way from home, far from the comforts and cheer of her cozy family Christmases back in Liverpool.

So when her boss Tyler Alexander offers to pay her pricey ticket home for New Year, Dory just can’t say no… even if she has to pretend to be his girlfriend for the holidays!

Tyler may be hiding the real reason he needs a girlfriend-of-convenience but that’s the least of Dory’s worries when she’s up against the disapproval of his high society mother, and the suspicions of his gorgeous older brother Lucas, the black sheep of the family.

There’s no fooling Lucas, and it’s not just the truth he wants to get closer to… So before the bells have even rung out for Christmas day, Dory finds herself caught up in the Alexander family’s dramas – and sharing more than just a few kisses under the mistletoe!

My Opinion

When I read the description for this book my mind went instantly to the movie "The Proposal." It sounded exactly like the narrative for that only with the genders reversed. Now, I love that movie so it didn't put me off requesting it, all I hoped it wasn't a total rip off and I was so glad that it was not what I expected at all. It couldn't have been further from the movie and I think I like this storyline more!

The Kiss Before Christmas was a quick, easy, festive read that left me with that warm, fuzzy feeling by the end of it. It engaged me brilliantly and I couldn't put it down. The writing flowed seamlessly and I liked how, unlike a lot of novellas I read, The Kiss Before Christmas wasn't jumpy. It flowed from one scene to the next and they all linked well to create a flawless story. There wasn't much detail in the characters backstory, but for once I didn't care. You get a few fact but other than that you are focused solely on the present relationships and I thought the author did this beautifully. It's not usual that I don't mind missing a backstory but this book really didn't need more than it had.

I found myself surprisingly drawn to Lucas. He had a relaxed manner and being the black sheep of the family differed from Tyler and the rest. I was engaged and drawn in with the romance as it built and I loved how it developed. It was a slow build which allowed me to invest in the characters relationship fully. The web of lies surrounding it all added another depth of emotion as you could feel for the characters.

I wasn't sure how the author was going to tie everything up-I knew the ending but couldn't guess how she would get there. Because of this I found myself surprised when the last little twist revealed itself, which was a nice development.

The only slight complaint I have about this book is the cover. Don't get me wrong, it's pretty but I'm just so tired of seeing the same couple on Christmas novellas. This is the fifth book I have read this year with them on so I would have liked something a little more original.

Overall though book title was a great festive romance. My heart melted for the characters and I felt for their situation. Their story was engaging and I couldn't stop reading!

Review ~ Revenge of a Chalet Girl by Lorraine Wilson

Revenge of a Chalet GirleARC received via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

Release Date: 19th December 2013

Publisher: HarperImpulse

Description:
All she wants for Christmas is…revenge.

When chalet girl Amy Wright finds her ex’s name on Chalet Repos’ guest list she sees her chance to get back at him – Josh Carter, the guy who broke her heart. Getting revenge without losing her job will be tricky but luckily the other chalet girls are on hand to offer their support. Pretty soon she’s in too deep and realises she doesn’t want to hurt him anymore. She wants him back.

There’s just one teeny complication…

My Opinion

I'd been eagerly checking NetGalley every day or so to see if this title had been put up when the author contacted me with a copy of the book. I squealed-literally-when that email came through! I was so excited to read this third book in the Chalet Girl series by Lorraine Wilson as they are some of the best winter novellas I have read in a long time.

Out of the series I think this one is, by far, my favourite. It was fun, playful and I loved the revenge aspect. It was funny yet made you symapthise with Amy at what she had been through. You could understand her reasons for messing with Josh and it made her likable. It just made me smile-especially the chilli scene.

Also, I liked how this novella differed from the others in the series. Rather than have the characters not know each other, it was interesting that they had a history and had been a couple. As well as this the book focused more on the present events and moving forward rather than on the past. Unlike the other books in the series Josh and Amy's pasts weren't explained in as much depth and it was about trying to get over the details we were informed about.

Another thing I liked was that the romance was an under the surface thing until the end and the build up was great. The emotions in both the revenge and relationship felt real and my heart broke for Amy. However, she developed a lot surprisingly. I loved how she transformed towards the end in to a confident character who was determined to do what she needed. As well as this the support from her friends was also believable and made you love them even more, especially Tash.

Overall, Revenge of a Chalet Girl, lived up to and surpassed my expectations. I love how the author keeps Holly and Scott in each book and centers the story in their chalet as it links them all well. It made me smile, it made my heart break and it was fun and playful. It's definitely my favourite of the series. I highly recommend these perfect fireside reads for cold winter days.

Review ~ Insurgent (Divergent #2) by Veronica Roth

Insurgent (Divergent, #2)
ebook received via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

Release Date: May 1st 2012

Publisher: HarperCollins UK

Description:

One choice can transform you, or destroy you.

Every choice has consequences, and as unrest surges in the factions all around her, Tris Prior must continue trying to save those she loves, and herself, while grappling with haunting questions of grief and forgiveness, identity and loyalty, politics and love.

My Opinion

I started Insurgent straight after I finished Divergent as I needed to know what was going to happen and I still can't believe I have waited so long to get a hole of this series! I do wish I had waited a little longer to read this one because now I have to wait for the third to arrive but it can't take that long to post can it?

Anyway Insurgent was just as fast-paced and gripping as the first book. Now I knew what I was letting myself in for with reading Veronica Roth's work I think I enjoyed it even more because I was excited to see how Tris developed and where the author was going to take the story next.

I liked that the author let Tris stay true to herself. She was strong but also doubted herself and the emotions that she went through came across as believable and realistic. I could sympathise with Tris and for me her doubt added another level of uncertainty to the writing that had me turning pages to find out what was going to happen.

Once again, I loved the action. Everything is described perfectly and I like how now of it is muted. People die and it adds to the realism as I've read so many books where death is covered up so it was a nice change.

The only thing I want more of was the romance but that is because I love romance books. I don't think the book needed it but Tris and Four are great to read about when they are together that I enjoyed those scenes most. In no way do I want the book to be total romance, I love the fact that it is mostly action but maybe a tad more.

Overall Insurgent was all that I expected to be and more. I can't believe the author left it on such a cliffhanger which is now annoying me because I have to wait to finish the trilogy. Go read these books before the movie comes out - you won't be disappointed!

Review ~ Divergent (Divergent #1) by Veronica Roth

Divergent (Divergent, #1)ebook received via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

Release Date: 28th Feb 2012

Publisher: HarperCollins UK

Description:
In the world of Divergent, society is divided into five factions – Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful) and Erudite (the intelligent). Every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice Prior, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is. Her choice shocks everyone, including herself.

During the initiation that follows, Tris and her fellow initiates undergo extreme physical tests of endurance and intense psychological simulations, some with devastating consequences. As initiation transforms them, Tris must determine who her friends really are – and where the boy who seems to both threaten and protect her fits into the life she's chosen.

But Tris also has a secret, kept hidden because she's been warned it can mean death. As unrest and growing conflict threaten to unravel her seemingly perfect society, Tris learns that this secret might save those she loves… or it might destroy her.

Debut author Veronica Roth bursts onto the scene with the first book in the Divergent trilogy – dystopian thrillers filled with electrifying decisions, heartbreaking betrayals, stunning consequences and unexpected romance.

My Opinion

I have been meaning to buy this series for a while but of course being a reviewer I get a lot of books sent to me that I end up reading those first. So when the first two (Divergent and Insurgent) became available on NetGalley because of the release of the final book Allegiant, I knew I had to request them immediately and was so glad that I got accepted!

I knew this series was big but I never really knew what it was about or what was involved so going into reading this, I didn't know what to expect. I assumed it was going to be like most YA out there but boy was I wrong. It was so different to anything else I have read before - especially in terms of violence. I was expecting it to be quite muted and tame but I love that it wasn't. The author created the characters brilliantly and I loved the strong mindedness of Tris, especially towards the end.

Divergent was action packed from start to finish and it kept m hooked all the way through. Honestly, there was a moment where I wanted to skim read a section. The writing moves at a fast pace and everything is described vividly. The fights were choreographed well so you could see what was going on. The world building was great and I liked the unique idea of Factions. I did find parts of Tris' revelation towards the end a little predictable but I was more interested in enjoying the book as I read it than think ahead. The writing just immersed me in Roth's world.

I think my favourite part of the book was the training and the development between Four and Tris. I liked how she grew into her role and became more herself. I also thought some of the technological side of things such as simulations were inventive and different.

Overall Divergent was a great read and I can't believe I waited so long to finish it! I've already read Insurgent and my review will be up in a few days so now I'm just waiting for the paperbacks to arrive so I can finish the trilogy! I would highly recommend you read them if you haven't already, especially before the movie comes out next year!

ARC Review ~ The Edge of Always by J. A. Redmerski + Excerpt

The Edge of Always (The Edge of Never, #2)eARC received via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

Release Date: 7th November 2013

Publisher: HarperCollins UK

Description:
The hotly anticipated sequel to the bestselling New Adult novel, THE EDGE OF NEVER – a New York Times, Wall Street Journal and USA Today bestseller

Camryn Bennett and Andrew Parrish wanted a life less ordinary – and together, against the world, it’s only getting better. But out of the blue, their perfect life together is rocked by tragedy…

Struggling to cope with a different future, Andrew soon realises that Camryn is hiding a world of pain. Desperate to bring her back to life, Andrew is sure that if they can get out on the road again, everything will fall into place. If only he can convince Camryn that their love is worth fighting for…

My Opinion

It was receiving an email from HaperCollins with an invitation to review this book in advance that gave me the much needed to kick to start The Edge of Never and if you've read my review of that then I loved it so much I couldn't wait to start The Edge of Always. In fact I started this book an hour after finishing the first and I'm so thankful I was able to get an advanced copy - this book didn't disappoint!

The Edge of Always is just as good as the first. I was a little worried with how the author was going to continue the series due to the way she left The Edge of Always but I was thankful that Camryn and Andrew didn't loose any of the carefree spirit and rebellion against conforming to societies wishes. Personally I felt the start was incredibly predictable and there for I spent the first few chapters waiting for something to happen rather than just read the book. I was turning pages and just hoping I was wrong - I wasn't - and therefore it was a little slow to get into.

However the writing soon picked up and I was once again thrown into the romance that Camryn and Andrew share and the relationship I have come to adore. I didn't find The Edge of Always as emotional as the first book but for me it was more on the sweet side. Maybe that was because it was written more from Andrew's point of view and therefore it was about him trying to help Camryn - I don't know - but at least it didn't make me cry this time! I still felt for the characters and connected with them however I just didn't feel so emotional which I think was a nice change of pace from The Edge of Never.

Once again, I love the message of not conforming and the desire to travel. I could relate to it well, having my on list of countries I want to visit. The whole section on the road and travelling I loved and it was great to see Andrew return to his normal self. I just loved the carefree attitude and spontaneity the characters had, it was unique and original for me.

Finally I just love the romance between the two. The love they feel for each other is believable with becoming one of those sickly romances that is full of cliches. I like how the trust each other enough and neither of them was ever possessive or jealous. It was a nice change.

Overall The Edge of Always is a brilliant sequel to The Edge of Always and the author did a great job of following up on their story. I also liked the ending - it rounded things off nicely. If you haven't read The Edge of Never yet, go out and buy it before the Edge of Always is released! You won't be disappointed so don't make the mistake I did of putting off reading it. They are beautifully written and full of emotion.

You can pre-order The Edge of Always here: Amazon and because I am on HarperCollins' mailing list I have an extract to run alongside my review so enjoy!

***WARING***
If you haven't read The Edge of Never yet do not read on as the extract contains spoilers to the ending of the first book!

But will Andrew’s dark secret push them inseparably together, or tear them completely apart?

Due to sexual content and language, this book is recommended for 17+ – Adult Contemporary Women’s – New Adult Fiction

My Opinion

Wow, talk about an emotional roller coaster! This book went from light-hearted flirting, playful teasing and a hot romance to flipping and turning into a dramatic, torturous ending that made me cry. I'm still shocked by how many different emotions it brought out of me as I write this now and I've had nearly two days to try and digest this amazing read.

I think the main reason I got so emotional with this book was because of the characters - I just fell in love with them and their story. They were believable, easy to relate to and made me both smile, laugh and cry. I could sympathise with them and connect really well which is what made this book so different from a lot of New Adult books I've read - I actually cared what happened to them!

I also loved the fact that they weren't perfect. They had bad mouth (brilliant), a playful and witty sense of humour and they weren't afraid to challenge each other. Camryn was a bit more reserved and held back with what she thought but I loved how Andrew brought out her confidence and she developed. As well as this I could just tell I was going to enjoy this book when they first met. Camryn was not automatically swept of her feet and was stand-off-ish with him which just made me laugh.

Another thing I really liked about this book was the message about not conforming with society and doing whatever you want that brings you happiness rather than those around you. I could relate well to the message and thought it was a nice change to see characters who actually wanted to follow their own desires. I don't know why but I really like the line "Coincidence is just the conformist term for fate." I think for me it summed up the message that Camryn and Andrew were choosing their own path.

I did see the ending coming a few chapters before the reveal was made, which made it a bit predictable. However saying that it still made me cry, especially Andrew's letter. Oh my God, my eyes just teared up which is something that doesn't happen often. The book just did a one-eighty and my emotions couldn't cope - it was just great and mind boggling.

Overall I can't believe I waited so long to read this. It has been sat on my Kindle for months and having forgotten the blurb that initially interested me I put it off as the cover always looked slightly depressing to me. How wrong was I? I wish I had started it sooner but at least I don't have to wait for the sequel now (which I started earlier today)! I would highly recommend this book.

ARC Review ~ Secrets of a Chalet Girl by Lorraine Wilson

Secrets of a Chalet GirleARC received via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

Expected Release Date: October 24th 2013

Publisher: Harper Impulse (HarperCollins UK)

ISBN: 9780007544073

Description:

Set in the exclusive Swiss ski resort of Verbier, the winter playground of the rich and famous, Secrets of a Chalet Girl is the second book in Lorraine Wilson’s fabulous Ski Season series.

My Opinion

When Lorraine Wilson emailed me to tell me Secrets of a Chalet Girl was up on NetGalley I headed straight over to request it and was so happy when it appeared in my approved list. After loving the first novella Confessions of a Chalet Girl I couldn't wait to read the sequel and it was a perfect gloomy-day read that I could snuggle up by a fire with. Secrets of a Chalet Girl was a quick, fast-paced read that I finished in an hour. It kept me turning pages and I couldn't put it down.

The author definitely doesn't hang around with the writing. Diving straight into the story at Holly's Hen Party, it picks up with the girls playing truth or dare which set the mood for the book well - especially when dares are rapidly directed towards guys. It caught my interest straight away, making me wonder which direction the book was going to head in. However, a shy girl coming off the back of some bad ordeals, sexy guy and pushy friend gave me some idea.

One word I can think of to describe this book is playful. I liked the teasing and games, it was flirty and engaging. I would say this book was milder than Confessions of a Chalet Girl and wasn't as steamy in the romance section but I liked that as it made it different so it didn't feel like I was reading the same book all over again. The romance between Flora and Zac was sweet and although they both have their own problems I liked how the author didn't dwell on the negatives too much. The characters wanted to be better and more confident and I liked that they were trying to change themselves from the start. Unlike a lot of NA the ordeals were a motivation to change rather than constantly making the character whine.

Secrets of a Chalet Girl is a very quick read and once again I was surprised by how much the author managed to cram into the novella. The characters had a background and a past, we also got to see some of Zac's. As well as this there was the developing romance, a little about the future and a wedding. There was a lot of story in the small amount of pages but I still find myself wanting it to be longer as I enjoy Lorraine's writing!

I also love the setting of this series. Now, I would rather be on a beach any day but there is something about snow and ski slopes that intrigues me, especially in romance books. I don't know what it is about the snow but I just like imagining winter wonderlands. It also makes it the book a perfect autumnal/winter read during the evening.

Overall I really enjoyed Secrets of a Chalet Girl. It was playful, hot and made me smile. It was an easy read that, once again, was written beautifully and I didn't want it to end. I can't wait to see what Lorraine Wilson releases next!

ARC Review ~ Crash into You (Pushing the Limits #3) by Katie McGarry

Crash into You (Pushing the Limits, #3)eARC received via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

Release Date: 26th November 2013

Publisher: Harlequin Teen (MIRA Ink)

Description:
The girl with straight As, designer clothes and the perfect life-that's who people expect Rachel Young to be. So the private-school junior keeps secrets from her wealthy parents and overbearing brothers...and she's just added two more to the list. One involves racing strangers down dark country roads in her Mustang GT. The other? Seventeen-year-old Isaiah Walker-a guy she has no business even talking to. But when the foster kid with the tattoos and intense gray eyes comes to her rescue, she can't get him out of her mind.

Isaiah has secrets, too. About where he lives, and how he really feels about Rachel. The last thing he needs is to get tangled up with a rich girl who wants to slum it on the south side for kicks-no matter how angelic she might look.

But when their shared love of street racing puts both their lives in jeopardy, they have six weeks to come up with a way out. Six weeks to discover just how far they'll go to save each other.

My Opinion

I was highly anticipating this book since I finished Dare You To so I couldn't wait to read it when it showed up on NetGalley. This book has everything I have come to expect from Katie McGarry and it definitely didn't disappoint.

Crash into You was an excitingly good read. I will admit it took me a few chapters to get into as I was slightly confused as to who Rachel and all her brothers were. Then when the book switched point of view I was trying remember who Isaiah was from Dare You To. It took me until about chapter 4 to get into the book but after that it kept me hooked all the way to the end.

After my initial confusion about Rachel was cleared up, the book moved at a fast pace and I loved the plot. The author had clearly done her research with the car aspect of the novel and I thought it was original how the girl took was the one to like speed and racing. In fact, I liked the whole theme of the cars, drag racing and mechanics - it was a nice change from the typical rich-girl-attitude. One thing I loved was the element of danger the cars brought to the book but also how they were used as a coping and escape mechanism for the characters, for me it was believable.

As well as this I enjoyed the romance part of the book. I think I enjoyed the concept of Dare You Too more (daring each other to do things) but Rachel and Isaiah were still great to read about and watch develop. I think Isaiah character was created brilliantly with just the right amount of protectiveness and love for Rachel. He didn't come across as overpowering which was great as it meant I could actually like him - there's nothing worse than an overprotective, possessive guy to ruin a story. The moments between the two were sweet and had ome funny moments. Some of it may have not been too realistic but I don't care, I was engaged by the romance and wanted things to end happily.

The only negative I have about this book is Rachel's character sometimes. I loved it when she was with Isaiah as she became this strong, confident female lead, however when she was on her own or with her brothers for me her emotions seemed to drag on a bit and she became whiny and self-deprecating. I could understand why due to her family situation and I liked how she grew out of it slowly but I would rather her have been strong throughout the entire book.

Overall I really enjoyed Crash into You. It was fast-paced, exciting and thrilling read that I couldn't put down. I love Kaite McGarry's writing and although I'm not sure what she's going to do for West's story in the next book I will be looking forward to it. I would highly recommend this series!

Review ~ Confessions of a Chalet Girl - Lorraine Wilson

Confessions of a Chalet Girlebook received via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

Release Date: 27th June 2013

Publisher: HarperImpulse

Description:

Set in the exclusive Swiss ski resort of Verbier, the winter playground of the rich and famous, Confessions of a Chalet Girl is a fun and flirty contemporary romance novella from the fabulous Lorraine Wilson.

The slopes seriously start to heat up when chalet girl Holly is propositioned by her sexy new boss!

My Opinion

This was a quick, entertaining and enjoyable read that I got through in just under an hour. It has also renewed my faith in novellas once more as I was thinking about stopping reading anything that isn't a full length novel due to previous experiences.

Confessions of a Chalet Girl was a sweet and funny story that kept me hooked and reading with a smile on my face. There were emotional moments which were nice as most of the time when these occurred it gave me an insight into the both Holly and Scott's past. This was one of the things that has renewed my faith in novellas, the characters had a past and although not described in piles of detail it enabled me to connect and engage with the characters which is normally something I struggle with.

Written with a quick pace, Confessions of a Chalet Girl keeps you turning pages at a rapid speed. I loved the relationship between Holly and Scott, especially the playful teasing. It kept me smiling and laughing as it stepped up a notch every time they encountered. Their emotions were believable and the passion was described nicely.

I think my favourite thing about this novella is the writing. The author crafted the story really well and rather than try and fit load of detail into and go off on tangents she focused on the main characters and plot. There was plenty of detail surrounding Holly and Scott and it hinted at other things with other characters but I really liked how she didn't try to cram every idea into the book. I have found with so many novellas that they jump around and are disjointed due to so many undeveloped ideas - Confessions of a Chalet Girl didn't do this, it flowed seamlessly and is crafted beautifully.

Overall I loved this novella. It was quick, fun, sexy and written well. Although I am reading this in the summer I can imagine it being a great winter or Christmas fire side read. I would highly recommend it!

Will the human race survive?

My Opinion

OK so this review is going to be pretty short as I don't want to give anything away and ruin it for you guys as it's the final book in the trilogy. When I saw it had been released early I screamed with happiness, I have been waiting just over a year for this book to be released and because it was due to be released in August I thought I had time to wait to add it to my pre-orders. Needless to say I was a bit disgruntled by having to wait 5 days for post (hey I'm a cheap skate at wasn't paying £12.99 for 1 day delivery even though I wanted to).

Anyway when it came in the post I was so happy! I had to start reading straight away and that was it for the rest of my day. Everything I had planned ended up not getting done as I was enthralled by the beautifully written and engaging finale. This book tugged at my heart strings and almost had me crying in points, the emotions just felt so real and the characters were crafted amazingly throughout the entire series - you just can't help but feel for them.

As well as this the book also had its funny moments and I loved how the author kept switching the atmosphere. Although the reader knows more than Willow (or can predict anyway) it doesn't stop you feeling what she is going through and I thought the author captured her emotions brilliantly even though the parts of the future are predictable.

It is also the only trilogy that I have read that has a satisfying ending that left me with a feeling of resolve and happiness. I actually had a smile on my face because it ended so well. I'm always nervous starting a final book in a series as I have been disappointed so often (Hunger Games for instance). Angel Fever didn't have this, it came to a natural end that tied up all the loose ends and for once it felt final, not with some unanswered questions that could lead on if the author wished. I'm sure that characters could go on but the way the author left it for me was perfect.

With plenty of action Angel Fever and the entire series will keep you engrossed and reading for hours. I'm sad this series is over but it's definitely going on my re-read pile and I can't wait to see what this author does next; she is one of my new favourites! If you haven't read this series go and buy it now! You won't be disappointed, there's a great romance, a new take on angels that is brilliant and the writing is excellent.

My Opinion

I had this book on pre-order and I was so excited when it arrived - I was literally jumping around the room. However because of exams season as much I was dying to read it I had to put it on my pile and wait as I wanted to spend a whole day getting lost in Rachel's world rather than stop and start reading it in between the millions of other things that had to be done. Anyway I have finally made time to read this book, thanks to a beautiful sunny day and it was definitely worth waiting for!

I love this series as it is so much darker than Vincent's other work. There is loads of action and the setting is original, brilliant and really intriguing. I loved Sera's witty and take-no-nonsense attitude that was established right from the beginning and it developed well throughout the entire book. She also had a vulnerable side that appears at times which was a nice change as you could really feel for her loss. Other times though there were moments when I was laughing out loud to myself with some of the comments made which was a nice change from the darker undertone. Gran was definitely a nice addition too and her comments like "I like her" when choosing Sera over Kris really put a smile to my face. I could relate and picture it easily.

This book engaged me and kept me hooked right from page one. The storyline is unpredictable and well structured so that you find things out at the right time and aren't left with any questions. I especially like how the author has used different characters for each installment in the series. Although Liv (from book one) is still my favourite - and thankfully still in the others slightly - I also like the other characters as they bring a fresh set of personalities, history and stories to the series which I enjoy discovering around the action.

This book was fast-paced and I really hope for another book in the series. I'm slightly annoyed the publisher has changed the size of the book because now they don't fit right on my shelf but that's a moot point when the book is this good. As well as this I really enjoyed the conflict in Kris and Sera's relationship. They were both stubborn, strong and determined to be right and what starts as a serious point of kidnapping turns into a funny ritual when questioned about it.

The only thing I wanted more of was the action at the end to big bigger and longer. Personally it felt a bit abrupt and too little people but that is my only complaint and it didn't stop me enjoying the book in the slightest - I think it's more a case of me wanting it to last longer.

Overall Rachel Vincent is one of my favourite authors and this series is definitely my favourite out of all her work (I've read it all)! Her writing style is brilliant and she crafts imaginative, believable and original worlds that keep you hooked and sat on the edge of your seat as you turn the pages to find out what happens next. I would highly recommend not only this book but every book by this author! If you haven't read anything by her you are seriously missing out. Go buy it!

Review ~ If I should Die (Revenants #3) - Amy Plum

If I Should Die (Revenants, #3)Paperback purchased by myself

Published: May 1st 2013 by Atom

ISBN:
1907411046

Description

I will not lose another person I love. I will not let history repeat itself.

Vincent waited lifetimes to find me, but in an instant our future together was shattered. He was betrayed by someone we both called a friend, and I lost him. Now our enemy is determined to rule over France s immortals, and willing to wage a war to get what they want.

It shouldn't be possible, none of it should be, but this is my reality. I know Vincent is somewhere out there, I know he s not completely gone, and I will do anything to save him.

After what we've already fought to achieve, a life without Vincent is unimaginable. He once swore to avoid dying - to go against his nature and forsake sacrificing himself for others - so that we could be together. How can I not risk everything to bring my love back to me?

This is the final book in a series. I haven't included as much detail in the review due to the fact I didn't want to include spoilers.

My Opinion

After the impossible cliff hanger the second book in the series left me on I couldn't believe I was going to have to wait a year to get my hands on this book. To make matter worse it was released during the middle of my exams so only now have I found a chance to read it as I didn't want to break the story up but rather read it the whole way through, due to it being a final installment.

I'm always nervous starting the final book in a series and besides having to force myself not to flick to the end to find out if everything will be OK, I worry the author won't do the series justice. However I should have guessed from Amy Plum's previous writing style that she would resolve everything well with no loose ends so that the reader feels satisfied and happy. For once I thought a series came to a natural resolve and conclusion without being stretched out or forced.

I wasn't sure how the author was going to fit all the detail into one final book but the answer is simple. It is action packed with never a dull moment! It kept me turning the pages from start to finish and I was hooked throughout the entire novel. The story moves at a fast pace and although it just touched on a few bits I would have liked more detail on (Kate's friends) there was enough so as not to confuse and keep your understanding and interest.

As well as this it brought on many emotions from me, sad, happy, laughter I went through them all at certain parts of the story and I couldn't tear myself away from the engaging and believable characters. I like how Kate came into her own in this book due to Vincent's absence and although I did predict some of the twists a lot earlier than they were revealed it didn't stop me enjoying the rest of the book as when I got to it, it was not only better than expected but Plum's writing describes everything beautifully to hook the reader's imaginations and draw them into the spectacular world she has created.

Overall I would highly recommend this series to everyone who loves romance, Parisian settings, the paranormal or YA. Amy's writing is beautiful to read like the worlds she creates are enthralling and exciting. The characters will take you on an emotional journey and you grow to love the whole revenant family. This final book resolved everything brilliantly and I was left satisfied with the ending that although leaves it open for another book seems final enough if there never is.
