But I know I’m defenseless against him, and in the end, he’ll force me to surrender.

My Opinion

I'm so glad this author continued this series with Mark's story. In my review for Conviction I felt a little disappointed at the lack of finality surrounding Mark and Jackson's company. At the time I didn't know this book was being released, but now that I've read it, it clears up all of the loose ends left over from the duet--which I'd recommend reading before you pick up this book.

I loved Mark's sense of humour in the Consolation Duet and it carried over into this book. He always made some kind of joke, even in the worst possible situations and I loved him for it. He was an easy character to like and because of his loyalty to friends and love ones I respected him. He's also able to put up with Charlie's stubbornness which made for some interesting reading. They were a good match and I liked the back and forth as they grew together and slowly accepted their feelings.

As for the plot, I enjoyed it. It kept me engaged and I didn't find there was a dull moment. The only negative I have is the big reveal. For me the motives needed to be explained a bit more, it all kind of came out of nowhere and I'm not sure about it.

Anyway, overall it's another great read and I'm looking forward to more by this author.
