The Program: an organization of elite soldiers with superior strength, agility, and intellect. These men put their lives on the line to execute the government’s most dangerous missions.

With no money, no job, and no friends, Jill Thompson has little hope of escaping her abusive husband’s violent outbursts—until she hears about the Program. Desperate for a safe haven, she flees to the their compound. What she finds there is Rowan Blacker, a ruggedly handsome man whose powerful presence hides a kind and gentle heart.

The newest member of the Program, Rowan hasn’t yet connected with his comrades and sometimes feels like an outsider. When Jill shows up at the compound begging for help, he recognizes that she, too, knows what it’s like to not fit in, and he’s overcome by an instinctive desire to protect her and gain her trust. As she slowly opens herself to Rowan, their attraction ignites into a burning passion that will bind them forever.

My Opinion

Yay! Rowan got a book.

Since book 2 I thought Rowan was an interesting character. He had a fun personality and I liked the way he was able to joke about his own disability. The fact that he feels insecure in his place in the Program only made him more interesting as I wanted him to fit in and feel liked he belonged.

I think this book and Xander's stories are my favourites in the series. I feel the author has developed her  writing over the course of the six books and that they've only got better as they progressed.

The story in this one was a lot more of a standard romance--abusive husband, wife freeing herself etc., just with the difference being she runs to an enhanced soldier compound to be matched. I thought the author dealt with the subject well and that Jill's emotions were believable. She didn't just fall at Rowan's feet or feel the instant pull that matches are supposed to, and I respected Rowan for taking things slow with her. He was a great guy and they're a couple you root for entirely.

As for the plot, it is predictable. However, that didn't stop me enjoying it. I even thought the ending was more satisfying in this book. There are a few unanswered questions, and I'm not sure if I'll find answers in book 6, but the at least there was a satisfying ending to the romance this time.

Overall, another good addition to the series. I'm moving straight on to book 6 now.
